In 2022, Te Kura Mareko - Casebrook Intermediate School adapted the unit that was posted from Kaikorai Primary School and experienced amazing success. According to Year 8 Coordinator Anna Kerr "Our ākonga were incredibly engaged across the school and they spoke highly of the media from AKE MAI - Jump Aboard."

"At the end of the unit of work we opened our hall to the community. They spoke highly of the exhibition and now some of our ākonga's work is on display at our local libraries."

Project Based Learning Case Study 2

In Term Two of 2021, Craig Scott, Head of Exhibitions, invited tamariki at Māori Hill School to create an exhibit to be put on display at Otago Museum. The kids were asked: "How can we as historians share the journey of our Aotearoa voyagers?", and for inspiration they went to maatauranga.co.nz.

Project Based Learning Case Study 1

In the first term of 2021, Kaikorai Primary School in Dunedin asked the kids "How can we as storytellers tell the amazing story of Pacific Migration?". Inspired by material they found on this website and Land of Voyagers, the students displayed the results of their Project Based Learning in the school hall.

A popular area of study for the children was waka building, allowing for lots of prototyping and feedback from both peers and experts. Different classes used different construction materials for their waka, including polystyrene, cork, and iterations the 3D printer.

Students also used Makey Makeys and Scratch to explain the Polynesian migration, while other topics investigated include: bird migration (including GPS), wind and water currents, food preservation, celestial navigation, storytelling and waiata.
